Because diasporas are complex and multi-layered, Diaspora and Development Foundation focuses on the pressing issues affecting how diasporas are empowered and uplifted, and in their role in supporting their nations of origin: from labor-related topics, to remittances and financial inclusion, immigration, education and healthcare.
Our areas of interest:
- POLICIES | Research and publications, with an emphasis on inclusive policies that impact the role and the potential of Latin American diasporas in the United States and their countries of origin
- SPACES | Community engagement of and with Latin American diasporas in the United States, facilitating inclusive discussion spaces at all levels to ensure all voices are heard
- INITIATIVES | Innovative initiatives to bridge the gap between Latin American diasporas in the United States and their countries of origin
How We Do It
- We craft and recommend inclusive diaspora policies to decision-makers and key stakeholders, both in the United States and in Latin America
- We hold high level diaspora policy discussions and community engagement events
- We publish books, articles and other research outputs, focusing on pressing topics related to Latin American diasporas in the United States
- We conceptualize and propel initiatives to connect Latin American Diasporas with their home countries
- We work closely with private sector partners to foster initiatives that mobilize and engage the diaspora.
Dominican Republic
Diaspora and Development Foundation (DDF) has been working with and for the Dominican diaspora since 2019, from drafting and publishing the first Dominican Diaspora Agenda for Cooperation and Development; high-level technical advice to local agencies and organizations mobilizing and working with the Dominican diaspora in the United States; to meetings and conferences with multidisciplinary experts discussing hot topics for the Dominican diaspora. Some of the initiatives with the Dominican diaspora can be found here.
